Abstract
This study is focused on the performance assessment of a shell and tube type heat exchanger due to its dominance in the heat transfer equipment. To find out the pressure drop and thermal parameter evaluation, such as the difference in temperature, heat transfer coefficient, and effectiveness, the geometrical design plays a vital role. Hence, it is vital to study the design of the heat exchanger. Thus, the design of the shell and tube heat exchanger needs careful attention for the selection of geometry, i.e., the number of passes, shell length, the diameter of the tube bundle, etc. The maximum effectiveness of 40% is observed for the 3-pass counter-flow arrangements, while 29 and 18% of effectiveness is calculated for the single coil and double coil heat exchangers.
