Giardia duodenalis is a protozoan parasite infecting the upper intestinal tract of humans, as
well as domestic and wild animals worldwide. Transmission of giardiasis occurs through the
faecal-oral route, and may be either direct (ie, person-to-person, animal-to-animal or
