Abstract
The landless, small and marginal farmers rely upon the common land resources for their livelihood. Due to “common access” these resources are utilized for a number of economic gains. The present study analyzes their role upon the livelihood of landless, small and marginal farmers. The study is based on primary data collected from field survey and which is supplemented by secondary data. Three resource regions were generated from the secondary data of land use. A village was selected for the household study from each region and a sample of 5 per cent households taken for the study. The study reveals that, there is a decrease in the common land resources during the last decade and 86 per cent of the total farmers were utilizing these resources. The income from common land resources utilized by landless, small and marginal farmers formed a significant share in total income. Finally an inference is drawn that common land resources have a significant impact on the livelihood of the landless, small and marginal farmers.
