In vitro cultures of different cultivars of strawberry were exposed to five light color regimes

Abstract
In vitro cultures of different cultivars of strawberry were exposed to five light color regimes provided by cellophane film covers (blue, green, yellow, red and clear). Cultures were subjected to the light treatments during direct shoot regeneration from leaf discs or proliferation from shoot tips and during the rooting stage. Red and green lights showed the highest frequency of adventitious bud regeneration (10 shoots explant-1). Maximum shoot proliferation was recorded under green (15.3 shoots explant-1) and red light (14 shoots explant-1), followed by blue light (with 13 shoots explant-1). During rooting stage, white light, followed by yellow or blue light, improved the quality of plantlets by increasing plantlet fresh weight, percent of trifoliate leaves, root length and root number. The number of leaves plant-1 was not affected by light treatment. Total chlorophyll content was the highest under blue and yellow light. The content of N, P, and K in plant tissues was higher when plantlets were grown under red, blue and green light, respectively. Our experiments indicated that the in vitro growth of strawberry cultivars was affected by light color treatments.
