1. ABSTRACT An automatic Target Detection Algorithm (ATD) is integrated in the interactive
image interpretation process. The detection algorithm works on large infrared line scanner
images and detects military vehicles. A concept for the integration into an image
interpretation system was developed and discussed with military image interpreters. After
implementation test experiments were carried out with image interpreters, which showed
improved performance by using ATD in comparison to—human interpreter “alone.
