With the growing importance of technology in the classroom, teachers are expected to be well equipped with new knowledge and skills. Technology is an integral to education and thus teachers need to use it wisely in the classroom. The technology-driven learning experience and innovative ways of teaching a subject content is what students are looking for nowadays. Today’s students are exposed to using various gadgets including mobile phones, tablets, laptops and iPads. They expect their teachers to use those technological innovations to enhance their educational experience. It is undeniable, however, that there are some teachers who are still struggling to effectively incorporate technology into instruction. They want professional development courses that incorporate future and emerging offerings, like technology.
Learning technologies in EAP course is one of a kind online professional development course for teachers. This course is offered by the English Language Teaching Centre, The University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. David Read and Nicholas Murgatroyd are the course tutors for the 10 weeks. This course costs£ 300 (RM 1,660) for an individual. However, there are five teachers from developing countries are selected to be given scholarship for this course. The researcher is one of five scholarship recipients. In general, this course is a practical course and thus the participants are required to teach students during the course. This will make it far more meaningful as participants can try out things on a weekly basis and share their experiments with the other people on the course. In this paper, the researcher aims to present a reflection on the course from a participant’s perspective.
