Abstract
Based on detailed sediment analyses carried out on Hel Peninsula between Chałupy and Jastarnia, five basic barrier zones were identified and characterized: the nearshore seafloor, beach, dunes with aeolian-swash bars, washover fans, and the back-barrier. Within these zones, the authors specified textural and structural features of deposits and identified the types and differences associated with transport and deposition conditions related to swash, wave and wind action, surface mass movements, and ice-related phenomena. Based on this analysis, the following basic lithodynamical facies have been distinguished: the nearshore seafloor, swash zone, washover fans, aeolian, and the back-barrier.
