In article number 1401728, Jacqueline M. Cole and co-workers report the use of molecular
engineering to design a new class of dyes for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Structure-
function relationships, existing between the dye/TiO2 interface (working electrode) and
photovoltaic properties of a DSC, provide the design information needed to reengineer one
type of functional (laser) dye into another (DSC) functional form. New dyes are built from
molecular fragments, like a jigsaw puzzle.
