Abstract
Streptococcus pneumoniae is a human pathogen causing pneumoniae, bacterimia and meningitis and its virulence is due to a structurally distinct capsular polysaccharide. Pneumococcal proteins determine the extent of tissue damage in the host cells. Detoxified pneumococcal hydrolytic enzymes are protective immunogens and can contribute to vaccine formulation.
