Abstract
Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a fast-growing mechanism, identified as a good solution to connectivity and communication issues. The conventional Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) trend is shifting towards IoV. Most of the expectations of the IoV are achieved by a thriving internet paradigm called Named Data Networking (NDN). The main inspiration behind NDN is the limitations of current IP Internet architecture. Another emerging networking paradigm is Software-Defined Networking (SDN), which is highly capable of transforming complex networking architectures into simple architectures along with well-planned management of overall networks. In NDN-based IoV, broadcast storm is a major issue due to NDN’s broadcasting nature. In IoV scenarios, unnecessary transmission delays and disconnected link problems are created by the fast-changing topology and high speed of vehicles. In this paper, we propose an intelligent forwarding strategy in NDN-enabled IoV using Software Defined Vehicular Controller (SDVC) and Edge Controller (EC) along with a reliable and durable path estimation model. We use NS3 and SUMO to simulate the model and run experiments. The delay is reduced by the In-network caching and naming strategy of NDN nodes. In the network, path failure minimization is mainly contributed by the properties of EC.
