A previously healthy 35-year-old man presented himself to the emergency department with a
5 day onset of progressive 4-limb numbness, gait disturbances and abdominal discomfort.
Recreational nitrous oxide (N2O) inhalation was reported for the last 2 years, with strongly
increased use since 3 days prior. There was no other relevant personal or family history.
Neurological examination revealed a sensory ataxia, pseudoathetosis and a sensory level
at Th3, most pronounced in the lower limbs.
