Artificial Intelligence (AI) has in recent times helped to promote journalistic processes, and produce results quickly in broadcast and print media, thereby enhancing the growth of the media industry through making large data collection, collation and dissemination cheaper and faster. However, there are fears that the adoption of AI could lead to job loss for some groups of journalists. Therefore, the aim of the study was, to examine the perception of registered journalists on the establishment of ethical framework and collaboration with artificial intelligence to ensure job security in Katsina State, Nigeria. Two specific objectives guided the study. There were further developed into two research questions and two hypotheses. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised two hundred and eighty-four (284) registered journalist from Eleven (11) media organizations in Katsina State, Nigeria. The entire population was use, thus no sample for the study and census sampling technique was applied. The instrument for data collection was a 5-point rating scale instrument titled: Questionnaire on Journalists Job Security in the Era of Artificial Intelligence (QJJSEAI) developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by 3 experts and was tested for reliability using Cronbach Alpha which yielded a reliability coefficient of 0.86. Data collected were analysed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions and t-test to test the hypotheses. The findings of the research questions revealed that there is a high extent to which the establishment of ethical framework and algorithmic accountability measures ensures job security in the era of artificial intelligence. There is high extent to which collaboration with AI ensures job security in the era of artificial intelligence. Findings for the hypotheses indicated that Age was not significant on the extent to which the establishment of ethical framework and algorithmic accountability ensures registered Journalists’ job security. Gender was not significant on extent to which registered Journalists collaborate with AI to ensure job security. It was recommended among others that media organizations should invest in comprehensive AI training and retraining programmes to equip journalists with the needed skills in AI technology.
