Polyethyleneimine (PEI) is known to bind copper ions effectively and selectively. However,
this is the first report on PEI-based materials for copper scavenging from ultra-low
concentrations in seawater matrixes. The findings are relevant for water purification and
sensing applications as well as extraction of copper from oceans.
