The population of early implanted deaf infants is increasing substantially because of broadening candidacy criteria and because hearing loss can be detected in the first months of the newborn’s life due to advanced hearing diagnostic and screening techniques (Joint Committee on Infant Hearing, 2000; Yoshinaga-Itano, 2000).
