This essay offers comparative analysis of the intersections and assemblages of fear on two “celebratory” occasions. The first involves attacks on German Citizens of Color, minorities, and refugees following the opening of the Berlin Wall in the Wende period of 1989–90. The second approaches the Cologne attacks on New Year's Eve 2015, concerning the enactment of sexual violence on German women of various racial and ethnic backgrounds and the plundering of women and men. Both serve as key turning points in relation to the intersection of time and space (a new year/a new state) and political corporealities (body politics and the body politic). Fear makes visible the assembling and concomitant cutting of intersectional ties at the level of the affected body.
