Writing is considered as one of the most difficult skills in learning English. Many students in Indonesia found that communication in written language is difficult because they did not know how to turn their ideas into their intelligible text. In order to make students to write successfully, writing activities in the classroom should be designed to build students’ writing habit that motivates students, build their self-esteem, and make them comfortable with writing. As explicit literacy skills are modeled through dialogue, the engagement of students needs to be considered. To make writing activity interesting, teachers may need to make changes in their instructional methods and even the layout of their classroom. This study investigated students’ perception on the use of Dialogue Journal in teaching writing at a university in Indramayu. Data were collected through the analysis of students’ response on the questionnaires and interview. The result of the study shows that most students believed that dialogue journal gives positive impact on their writing
