Deep water rice cv. Habiganj Aman II and Habiganj Aman IV were transplanted at 30 or 60 d at 1, 2 or 3 seedlings/hill in deep water tanks flooded to 50 cm at 30 d after transplanting, increasing gradually to 180 cm. The number of basal tillers/plot increased with increasing seedling number and was greater with 30-d-old than 60-d-old seedlings. Flooding survival decreased with increased seedling number/hill. Grain yields were highest with 2 seedlings/hill transplanted at 60-d-old (1.31 kg/m² for Habiganj Aman II and 1.44 kg for Habiganj Aman IV).
