The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) skills shortage is affecting industries globally. Acquiring suitable ICT skills globally and in South Africa has become a difficult task. Industry has indicated that graduates require a diverse set of skills. Computer Science, Information Systems and Information Technology generally utilise the IS2010 and CS2013 ACM/IEEE curricula. A number of research studies have focused on ICT industry skills requirements and curricula offered at higher education institutions. This study focused on ICT graduate skills and the specific industry ICT graduate skill requirements from businesses employing ICT graduates annually in South Africa. Businesses employing ICT specialists and specifically ICT graduates were surveyed and the managers identified ICT graduate skill requirements in four skill categories, namely software development, technical skills, business skills and soft skills. The importance of Software Development skills and Business Skills were emphasised and new skills, including Business Analysis and Analytics, Business Process Modelling, Mobile Application Development and Internationalisation skills were identified. This research could assist and benefit SA universities in producing suitably skilled ICT graduates.
