The success of coworking in urban areas has increased the interest of actors from rural areas to embrace the concept as way to improve the local socio-economic environment. The chapter analyses the translation process of coworking practices from an urban setting, Barcelona’s metropolitan area, into rural areas in Catalonia. The results suggest that through a process of reinterpretation, the different aspects constituting the understanding of coworking (materiality, practices, and values) were able to be disembedded from its original urban context to be re-embedded in different rural environments. This research illustrates the tension between isolated and interconnected spaces of creativity.
