The cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) has beenknown for several
years as one which is capable of building reverse micelles (or water-in-oil microemulsions at
higher water content). 1" 4 Also, a few papers5" 8 describe chemical reactions, mostly
enzymatic reactions, 6 7" 8 which take place in CTAB aggregates in organic solvents (mostly
chloroform and alkanes, eg, isooctane and higher hydrocarbons).
