Abstract
As stated at the beginning of the book, remanufacture is a vital element in the circular economy. It has been proposed that rather than perceive waste management as discrete set of operations (of generation, collection and disposal), it should be viewed as a system where waste is regarded as “part of a production system, the relationship of waste to other parts of the system is revealed and thus the potential for greater sustainability of the operation increases” (Seadon in J Cleaner Productions 18:1640, 2010). This chapter examines the issues raised in the relations between production of fashion garments and of waste textiles for remanufacturing fashion companies within the mainstream fashion industry. A concept for a system for remanufactured fashion is presented and, using the exemplar case studies in Chap. 4 , areas preventing a workable system for the mass market level are examined. Issues regarding new technologies, marketing opportunities and strategy implications are identified and considered.
