Abstract
Geert Hofstede is a Dutch social psychologist who conducted numerous studies on nations’ cultures. His cultural dimensions theory consists of six dimensions in order to analyze the cultural levels of nations. These dimensions are the Power Distance Index (PDI), Individualism versus Collectivism (IDV), Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI), Masculinity versus Femininity (MAS), Long Term Orientation versus Short Term Orientation (LTO), and Indulgence versus Restraint (IND). The focus of this study is to investigate the cultural dimension levels of Turks who were raised in Turkey and moved to the United States for several reasons including education, marriage, family, job, etc. Moreover, we also investigated the cultural differences of these people based on their demographic features including gender, marital status, education level, length of residency, income level, and purpose for moving. In this context, we issued an online survey to 245 people via social media tools. The responses showed us that there are differences between the cultural levels of Turks in the United States and Turks in Turkey. There are also differences within the Turks in the United States based on demographics.
