The development of a country in largely depends on the status of women as they constitute almost fifty per cent of the total population of the country. Recent study (ABP, 2015) revealed the fact that India’s GDP would be 27 per cent if the fifty per cent of the women population gets employment. The present study is conducted in Beldanga-II Community Development Block of Murshidabad District of West Bengal. The perception of students on women empowerment is measured and the role of public library towards women empowerment is also evaluated. The result shows that Kanyashree Prakalpa has the tremendous effect towards the reduction of girl’s dropout, enhancement of class attendance, continuation of study up to the age of 18 years and reduction of the early child marriage. The study further revealed that the role of the public library is important towards knowledge transmission especially in public services sector.
