Abstract
Assessed the construct validity of the Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnaire (VVIQ) on the basis of a quantitative review of content validity, reliability, and criterion-related validity. Consideration of the test instructions, items, rating scale, and distribution of scores revealed a number of flaws that challenged content validity. There was also a postcorrelation between reported vividness and social desirability, although the degree of contamination was acceptable. Reliability was acceptable for internal consistency, barely acceptable for test-retest, and unacceptable for both immediate and delayed alternate form. The effects of social desirability and context also suggested that vividness resembles a typical performance trait. Suggestions are provided for altering certain features of the VVIQ.(PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2019 APA, all rights reserved)
