This document presents a comparison between the social role of the landline telephone
from the 1880s till World War II and the mobile telephone nowadays. Two papers analyse
the social map of telephone uses in both the early days of the landline telephones and the
mobile phone today. First, we show the similarities and differences concerning the launch
and uses of both devices. In both cases the issue of the telephone as a broadcasting service
