Abstract
This treaties focused on one of the most controversial puziles facing both the developed, developing and underdeveloped countries in the study of International relations in recent times. The difficulty is notorious on how, each state in the three categories maximises its national interests at the international political arena characterised by'clash of civilisation, technological advancement, instantaneous switch of capitals across states frontiers, terrorism, proliferation of nuclear weapons, etc. The methodological approach employed is the Foreign Policy Approach. The article examined the connection between national interests and foreign policy in the post cold war era, using Nigeria as a point of departure. The paper therefore, concluded that for Nigeria to accomplish its national interests, she has to comprehend the environment in which it is pursuing such interests. It has to understand the dynamics and realities of the post cold war era. This is made manifest only by the re-definition of its foreign and domestic policies toward appreciating complexities of domestic forces and foreign poliy players and their behaviours.
