Vehicular Ad Hoc Network (VANET) is an enabling technique for Internet of vehicles and intelligent transportation systems. Due to the fast movement of vehicles and link weakness of wireless communication, the topology of VANET changes frequently. Therefore, how to achieve stable, efficient, and rapid data access in such a highly dynamic network is a challenging topic. In this paper, we propose an efficient data routing protocol based on named data networking (NDN), a promising information-centric data communication technology. The message and data structure of NDN are both redesigned. To cope with network topology changes, we design a novel route update mechanism, which updates the data forward tables in an incremental way. Such a design can reduce route update cost significantly as well as deal with the mobility of data producer and data requester. Simulations via SUMO and ndnSIM verify the advantages of our work. Compared with existing works, our protocol can achieve more stable data routing and lower data forwarding overhead.
